Councilmember Kristin Mink introduced Bill 9-26 on Feb. 10, which would require landlords of detached single-family rental homes to provide air conditioning and extend the mandatory AC period from June–September to May 15–September 30. The bill removes the existing exemption for single-family homes while retaining the exemption for dwellings on the National Register of Historic Places, and includes a transition period allowing landlords to seek a temporary waiver. A public hearing is scheduled for March 10, 2026.
