Council Unanimously Passes Trust Act for Immigrants

The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the Trust Act (Expedited Bill 35-25) on Feb. 10, 2026, prohibiting County employees from requesting or investigating a person's immigration status unless required by law and limiting the use of County resources in federal civil immigration enforcement. The legislation guarantees County services are not denied based on immigration status except as required by law, and does not alter the County's criminal law enforcement approach. A bill signing ceremony with County Executive Marc Elrich and Council President Natali Fani-González is scheduled for Feb. 20, 2026.
