Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will sign the Trust Act (Expedited Bill 35-25) into law on Feb. 20, 2026. The legislation, passed unanimously by the full Council, prohibits County employees from requesting or investigating a person's immigration status unless required by law, bans intimidation or discrimination based on actual or perceived immigration status, and bars denial of County services on that basis. Council President Natali Fani-González spearheaded the bill.
