New Zoning Bill Targets Major Employer Attraction, Drops Threshold to 200 Jobs

Council President Natali Fani-González will introduce Zoning Text Amendment 26-05 on March 10, 2026, which renames the existing Signature Business Headquarters zoning designation to 'Job Creation Project' and significantly expands eligibility. The ZTA lowers the required employee count from 20,000 to 200, removes the headquarters requirement, and opens the use to additional Commercial/Residential, Employment, and Industrial zones. Businesses must be in a strategic industry sector identified in the County's Economic Development Strategic Plan and have received County or state funding; a public hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 9, 2026, with the deadline extended to July 28, 2026.
