At the March 4, 2026 meeting of the East County Citizens Advisory Board, UL Research Institutes announced plans to build a new research campus just south of the Viva White Oak development on Cherry Hill Road, relocating facilities from Dallas, TX and Columbia, MD. The facility will include offices and advanced lab space for fire safety testing and research, along with 250 permanent jobs. The Maryland Economic Development Corporation is a partner; the project is expected to enter the Planning Department's mandatory referral process this spring and begin construction in 2027.
