Bill 8-26 Targets Algorithmic Rent Price-Fixing in County

On March 10, 2026, a press conference and public hearing were held on Bill 8-26, the Anti-Algorithmic Price Fixing Act, introduced by Councilmember Will Jawando and cosponsored by Councilmembers Shebra Evans and Kristin Mink. The bill would prohibit landlords from using algorithmic software to set rents or other lease terms in Montgomery County. DHCA Director Scott Bruton and City of Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton also testified in support of the legislation.
