Council President Rejects Unilateral Solid Waste Trucking Plan

Council President Natali Fani-González expressed opposition to the County Executive's continued pursuit of long-haul trucking of Montgomery County's solid waste to an undisclosed community, a cost included in the FY2027 budget proposal. Fani-González stated the Council had previously made clear it could not consider the decision without a complete analysis of all options and a thorough community engagement process. She cited unanswered questions about taxpayer costs, revenue impacts, environmental effects, and workforce impacts.
