Stewart Introduces Financial Exploitation Protection Act for Vulnerable Adults

Councilmember Kate Stewart introduced Expedited Bill 16-26, the Financial Exploitation Protection Act, on March 19, 2026. The bill would prohibit use of deception, intimidation, or undue influence to obtain money, property, or services from vulnerable adults or individuals aged 68 and older, and would allow the Office of Consumer Protection to operate a voluntary mediation program alongside its existing investigative authority. All other Council members are co-sponsors of the legislation.
