Montgomery County's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will implement new limits on construction and demolition (C&D) material acceptance at the Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station starting October 2026. Under the new rules, the Transfer Station will only accept C&D loads under 2 tons; loads between 500 lbs and 2 tons will be subject to disposal fees; and loads of 2 tons or more must be redirected to other regional facilities. The changes are intended to increase recycling of the roughly 300,000 tons of C&D materials generated in the county annually.
