Multiple state and local programs are available to help Montgomery County residents manage rising gas and electric costs, including the Maryland Energy Assistance Program, utility shut-off protection from November through March, the Electric Universal Service credit for households at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, and the Arrearage Retirement Assistance program providing up to $2,000 for past-due bills. The nonprofit Fuel Fund of Maryland also provides assistance to BGE customers.
