Montgomery County Joins COG Local Food Procurement Challenge

The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved a resolution introduced by Councilmember Friedson to join the COG Local Food Procurement Challenge, making the county the first jurisdiction to do so. The challenge calls on local governments to direct a portion of existing food-purchasing dollars toward local and regional food producers to support farmers, address food insecurity, and strengthen supply-chain resilience. The action comes amid concerns over federal tariffs, rising food costs, and potential cuts to nutrition programs such as WIC.
