Montgomery County residents can now drop off food scraps for free composting at the Derwood Farmers Market (Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.) and the Olney Farmers & Artists Market (Sundays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.). Accepted items include fruit and vegetable scraps, eggshells, meat, dairy, and coffee grounds. The program diverts food waste from landfills and converts it into compost.
