Council Passes Native Plant Protection Act, Bans Invasive Bamboo Sales

The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed the Native Plant Protection Act on April 7, 2026, introduced by Councilmember Evan Glass and cosponsored by Councilmembers Kate Stewart and Dawn Luedtke. The legislation promotes sustainable landscaping by supporting native plant growth on residential lawns and prohibits the commercial sale of invasive running bamboo, which can spread underground by up to 15 feet per year.
