Mega Gas Station ZTA Amendment Fails; Council Vote Pending This Fall

A zoning text amendment revising standards for mega gas stations — with implications for the Viva White Oak development — advanced out of committee after an amendment by Councilmember Fani-González that would have measured the 500-foot buffer from the full station footprint rather than only the pumps was voted down. Fani-González opposed the ZTA in committee and announced she will continue to oppose it when it reaches the full Council this fall. Existing mega gas station standards were established under ZTA 15-07 following a contentious effort to site one at Wheaton Mall.
