Federal Grant to Fund 1,000 New Shade Trees Countywide

A $785,000 federal grant will allow DEP to plant 1,000 new shade trees on private and public properties and structurally prune an additional 1,000 young shade trees on County-owned land. The funding also supports expanded reforestation efforts aimed at increasing tree canopy, reducing soil erosion, protecting water supplies, and enhancing biodiversity. The grant was secured through congressionally directed spending by Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks, and Rep. Raskin.
