Montgomery County's Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, in partnership with the University of Maryland and the Maryland Department of Emergency Management, installed three Maryland Mesonet automated weather stations in the County in 2025. The stations are located in Layhill, Poolesville, and Potomac, and measure air and soil temperature, humidity, wind speed, precipitation, and other environmental factors. Two additional smaller stations are planned for more urbanized areas; data will be publicly available at the Maryland Mesonet website once all stations are operational.
