Sayles Proposes $1M Emergency Appropriation for Health Services

Councilmember At-Large Laurie-Anne Sayles has proposed a $1 million special appropriation to the FY2026 operating budget to stabilize Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services programs impacted by federal and state funding cuts. The funding would be split among Minority Health Initiatives ($300,000), the Senior Nutrition Program ($400,000), and home care services ($300,000). The resolution is co-led by Council President Natali Fani-González and Councilmembers Sidney Katz and Kristin Mink, and is set to be formally introduced when the Council reconvenes on January 13, 2026.
