County Enacts Building Energy Performance Standards for 1,860 Buildings

The Montgomery County Council enacted Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) regulations as part of its FY25 climate initiatives, as reported in the Climate Action Plan Annual Report released in January 2026. The standards apply to 1,860 buildings totaling more than 238 million gross square feet and are aimed at improving energy efficiency across the county's commercial and institutional building stock.
