Council Briefed on DMVMoves $460M Annual WMATA Funding Plan

The Montgomery County Council will receive a briefing on Jan. 13, 2026 from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and WMATA on the DMVMoves initiative, a regional plan for sustainable public transit funding in the Washington, D.C. area. The plan, jointly endorsed by COG and WMATA boards on Nov. 17, 2025, commits to providing an additional $460 million per year to WMATA by FY29, of which $152 million would come from Maryland. The funding would address Metro's capital backlog, modernize rail signaling, advance automation, and stabilize WMATA's bond program.
