Alert Montgomery Adds Emergency Alert Translation in 11 Languages
OEMHSSep 8, 2026
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) has launched an online translation service for its Alert Montgomery emergency alert system, allowing recipients to click a link in text or email notifications to access translations in 11 languages. The service prioritizes six languages most commonly spoken by county residents with limited English proficiency: Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Alert Montgomery currently has more than 266,000 subscribers and is the largest emergency alert system in Maryland; the translation service applies to OEMHS-generated alerts such as weather emergencies and shelter-in-place orders, but does not currently cover traffic notifications.
