Council Reviews $198M Solid Waste Budget; Service Charges to Rise

The Montgomery County Council will review the $198 million FY27 Recycling and Resource Management Fund budget on May 6, 2026, a 3.1 percent increase driven by rising recycling contract costs, landfill planning, and equipment expenses. The County Executive's recommended FY27 Solid Waste Service Charges include a $14.33 increase for single-family residential, a $2.94 increase for multi-family residential, and a $106.05 increase per 2,000 square feet for non-residential properties. The Transfer Station tipping fee for refuse would rise from $93 to $105 per ton, and the fee for concrete, dirt, and rubble from $70 to $75 per ton.
