Council Votes 18-Month Data Center Moratorium

Glass Jul 30, 2026
The Montgomery County Council unanimously voted this week to implement an 18-month moratorium on data center approvals. The legislation merged a six-month pause proposed by Councilmember Evan Glass with a two-year proposal by Councilmember Will Jawando. The moratorium is intended to allow time to develop environmental, utility, and public health safeguards related to hyperscale data centers.
