County Enforces Worker Heat Safety Rights During Emergency

OEM Jul 1, 2026
During the heat emergency, Montgomery County is highlighting Maryland worker heat safety rights, which entitle outdoor and heat-exposed workers to water, shade, and rest. When the heat index reaches 100°F, employers are legally required to provide at least 15 minutes of rest per hour. Workers in construction, agriculture, landscaping, and other non-air-conditioned environments are directed to the Be Cool Montgomery website for information on rights and how to file a complaint.
