County Police to Activate Red-Light Cameras as Green-Phase Speed Cameras
MCDOTAug 11, 2026
As part of the FY27 Vision Zero Work Plan, Montgomery County Police will activate existing red-light cameras to also function as speed cameras during the green phase of traffic signals, a practice called "speed on green" enforcement. The initiative will be deployed at locations where State law permits speed camera use and where excessive speeding during the green phase has been documented. The department also continues high-visibility enforcement along the High Injury Network.
