County Recommends 78°F Summer, 68°F Winter Thermostat Settings

DEP Jul 13, 2026
Montgomery Energy Connection is reiterating its thermostat recommendations of 78°F in summer and 68°F in winter, figures drawn from U.S. Department of Energy guidance. The program notes that each degree beyond the recommended setting increases utility bills by approximately 3%. The guidance comes amid a heat dome event in early July 2026 following Winter Storm Fern in January.
