Elrich to Sign Ghost Gun, Firearms Assembly Bill

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will hold a ceremonial signing of Bill 23-26E — Weapons—Restrictions on Ghost Guns Near Minors and Carrying of Firearms in or Near Places of Public Assembly — on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. at the Leggett Executive Office Building in Rockville. The legislation, approved by the County Council on July 21, revises the County's firearms law to comply with a Maryland Supreme Court decision while retaining the strongest local firearm restrictions permitted under State law. The bill preserves prohibitions on carrying firearms near schools, parks, libraries, polling places, and houses of worship, but repeals the County's prior ghost gun restriction involving minors, which the Court ruled falls under State authority.
