Fani-González Defends FY27 Budget, Rejects Tax Hike Claims

Fani-González Jun 3, 2026
Council President Natali Fani-González issued a statement on June 3, 2026, pushing back against what she characterized as misleading information about the County Council's FY27 budget decisions. The Council unanimously rejected the County Executive's proposed property tax increase of more than six percent and a broad income tax increase, instead adopting a progressive income tax structure under which 95 percent of County wage earners will receive a tax cut. The $140 million Income Tax Offset Credit (ITOC) was eliminated, with remaining funds reallocated to Montgomery County Public Schools and services for vulnerable residents.
