MCDOTMay 29, 2026
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Howard County Executive Calvin Ball joined transportation leaders on May 21, 2026, to break ground on the extension of the Flash Bus Rapid Transit line into Howard County along US Route 29/Colesville Road. The extension will add four new stops — Downtown Columbia, Merriweather Drive, Maple Lawn, and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory — served during weekday rush hours. Service is expected to launch in fall 2026, powered by four new electric buses purchased by Montgomery County.
