Flash BRT Expands into Howard County Along US 29

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will join transportation officials on May 21, 2026, for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the expansion of Montgomery County's Flash Bus Rapid Transit line into Howard County along US Route 29/Colesville Road. The project adds four new Flash stations serving Downtown Columbia, Merriweather Drive, Maple Lawn, and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, with weekday rush-hour service. Montgomery County purchased four electric buses for the expansion, funded by the Federal Transportation Agency.
