DEP May 15, 2026
Montgomery County DEP operates food scraps recycling drop-off booths at five farmers markets on weekends, accepting a wide range of materials including meat, dairy, eggs, and food-soiled paper. DEP estimates 188 million pounds of food scraps are discarded in county trash annually. Drop-off hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Pike Central Farm Market, Derwood Market, Downtown Silver Spring Market, Onley Farmers & Artist Market, and Bethesda Central Farm Market.
