Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Kisha Davis announced on July 31, 2026 that all remaining health advisories for the Potomac River shoreline and river sediment have been lifted following a sewage leak caused by the Potomac Interceptor collapse. Sediment testing by the Maryland Department of the Environment shows bacterial concentrations between Lock 11 and Minnie's Island have returned to acceptable levels. Residents may resume recreational use of the affected shoreline areas.
