Luedtke, Katz Host Shady Grove Solid Waste Town Hall Sept. 2

Luedtke Aug 17, 2026
Councilmembers Dawn Luedtke (District 7) and Sidney Katz (District 3) will host a public town hall on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, from 7–8:30 p.m. at the MCDOT Highway Services Depot in Rockville. The meeting will feature Department of Environmental Protection representatives discussing the county's proposed shift from train-based waste transport to out-of-county long-haul landfilling, including potential impacts such as increased truck traffic and a new Advanced Waste Processing facility near the Shady Grove Transfer Station. The Montgomery County Council is expected to further review DEP's proposal this fall as part of its Ten-Year Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.
