McComas Avenue Greenway Phase One Complete in Wheaton

MCDOT Sep 14, 2026
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Natali Fani-González, and Councilmember Kate Stewart joined MCDOT Director Chris Conklin on Sept. 14, 2026, to celebrate completion of phase one of the McComas Avenue Greenway in Wheaton. The 1.2-mile project spans McComas Avenue from St. Paul Street to Georgia Avenue, including segments on Douglas Avenue, Windham Lane, and Drumm Avenue, and features raised intersections, curb extensions, ADA-compliant ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, and bike sharrows. Phase two, expected to begin later in 2026, will add 0.10 miles of infrastructure connecting the greenway to the planned Amherst Avenue Bikeway.
