MCPD Increases Mosque Patrols After San Diego Attack

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement on May 18, 2026 condemning the fatal attack at the Islamic Center in San Diego, in which a security guard was killed. In response, the Montgomery County Police Department has increased patrols around mosques and Islamic community institutions across the county. Elrich noted that Eid-al-Adha falls on May 27 and acknowledged concerns among local Muslim residents about celebrating safely.
