MCPS Receives $3.7B, $156.6M Above State Minimum

The FY2027 budget allocates more than $3.7 billion to Montgomery County Public Schools, a $143.7 million increase over the prior year and $156.6 million above the state-required Maintenance of Effort level. MCPS, the largest school system in Maryland, serves more than 156,000 students across 211 schools and represents approximately 47% of the county's operating budget. The budget includes $25 million in pre-funding for the retiree health benefits trust.
