Montgomery County First COG Member to Join Local Food Procurement Challenge

On March 24, 2026, Montgomery County became the first jurisdiction among Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) members to pass a resolution joining the Local Food Procurement Challenge. The Challenge, launched by the COG Food and Agriculture Regional Member (FARM) Policy Committee, invites jurisdictions to shift a portion of existing food purchasing budgets toward locally and regionally produced foods. The move is intended to expand market opportunities for small, local farms and strengthen the regional food supply chain.
