New Progressive Income Tax Structure Approved for County

Fani-González May 15, 2026
The Montgomery County Council approved a new progressive income tax structure as part of the FY27 budget. The Council said 95% of county wage earners will receive an income tax reduction, while the highest earners will pay slightly more. The County Executive's proposed flat income tax increase and a 6.3-cent property tax increase were both rejected.
