Ride On Expanding Zero-Emission Fleet With Two Depot Projects
MCDOTFeb 23, 2026
Montgomery County's Ride On is expanding its zero-emission transit fleet through two major infrastructure projects: the Brookville Smart Energy Bus Depot in Silver Spring, solar-powered and designed for up to 70 electric buses, and a Gaithersburg bus depot under construction that will feature solar arrays, battery storage, and on-site green hydrogen production. Ride On introduced its first battery-electric buses in 2020. The Gaithersburg facility is expected to become the largest renewable-energy transit depot in the United States.
