White's Ferry Resumption Hinges on Virginia Landing Rights
MCDOTJul 24, 2026
Despite the property transfer to Montgomery County, White's Ferry service cannot resume until landing rights at the Virginia end of White's Ferry Road in Loudoun County are restored. The Potomac River crossing closed in December 2020 following a Loudoun Circuit Court ruling that invalidated the existing Virginia landing agreement. Montgomery County officials stated they lack authority to acquire those rights but intend to operate the ferry as a public service once the Virginia landing becomes available.
