Wilma K. Holmes, MCPS Diversity Pioneer, Dies at 93

Wilma King Holmes, a longtime Montgomery County Public Schools administrator and civil rights leader, died on July 3, 2026 at her home in North Bethesda. Born April 25, 1933, she built and directed the MCPS Department of Human Relations in 1972—one of the first school system diversity offices in the country—and later served as principal of Flower Valley Elementary School for 20 years. She was also active with the Montgomery County Commission for Women, the NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church.
