WMATA is increasing fare enforcement across Metrobus and Metrorail, with more Metro Transit Police deployed on buses and updated fare reader software for faster taps. Bus operators will issue more frequent reminders to pay the $2.25 fare. Riders using Senior SmarTrip or Youth Cruiser SmarTrip cards are reminded to tap when boarding Metrobus to receive their zero-fare benefit.
