Islamophobic, Racist Graffiti Found at Walt Whitman High School

Islamophobic, racist, and violent graffiti — including messages calling to 'Nuke Palestine' and explicit slurs targeting Muslim students — was discovered at Walt Whitman High School on January 16, 2026. MCPS is investigating under its hate-bias protocols in collaboration with the Montgomery County Police Department, and the Hate Bias Crisis Team has been mobilized. Councilmember Will Jawando, Chair of the Education and Culture Committee, released a statement condemning the incident and said his office is in contact with MCPS and law enforcement.
