County Introduces Zoning Rules to Regulate Data Centers

Councilmember Balcombe and colleagues introduced Zoning Text Amendment 26-01, which would add a formal definition of 'data center' to the Montgomery County Zoning Ordinance — currently absent — and restrict where they may be built as conditional uses. A public hearing on the ZTA was held February 24, 2026. Residents can review the text and submit feedback.
