Council Passes U Visa Act to Protect Crime Victims

The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed the Uplifting Victims and Immigrant Safety Act (U Visa Act), introduced by Councilmember Evan Glass. The legislation allows eligible victims of serious crimes — including domestic violence, trafficking, and assault — to apply for a U Visa regardless of when the crime occurred. The bill is aimed at encouraging immigrant residents to report crimes without fear of immigration consequences.
