Jawando Opposes MCPS Plan to Close Silver Spring Middle School

Councilmember Will Jawando, chair of the Education & Culture Committee, issued a statement opposing the MCPS Superintendent's recommended FY2027 Capital Budget proposal to close Silver Spring International Middle School (SSIMS) and relocate Sligo Creek Elementary School (SCES). The proposal also includes $281 million in capital investments. Jawando stated the five-week window between announcement and Board vote was insufficient for meaningful community engagement.
