County Enacts HERO Act for Public Safety Survivors Benefits

Montgomery County has enacted Expedited Bill 32-25, known as the HERO Act, which addresses problems with delivering survivors benefits to families of public safety personnel killed in the line of duty. The legislation was prompted by the death of Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins and was amended to fully include county police officers alongside firefighters. Councilmembers Luedtke, Glass, and Katz collaborated on the bill.
