Council Moves to Codify Data Center Moratorium in Law

Fani-González Jul 15, 2026
Council President Natali Fani-González, Vice President Marilyn Balcombe and Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles announced on July 15, 2026 a plan to codify County Executive Marc Elrich's executive order imposing a six-month moratorium on data center development through formal legislation. Two moratorium bills — Bill 19-26 and Bill 24-26 — will be reviewed by the Economic Development (ECON) Committee on July 22. If the committee favors one bill, it will advance to the full Council for a work session and action on July 28.
