Council Passes Bill Waiving Taxes on Habitat Homes

The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed Bill 15-26, sponsored by Councilmember Andrew Friedson, which waives county property taxes on new and rehabilitated Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland homes during the construction period only. The legislation aims to reduce construction carrying costs so Habitat can build more affordable homes for families earning 30–80% of area median income. Once a home is sold, the new owner pays property taxes like any other resident.
