Council Proposes Tougher Energy, Water Rules for Data Centers

Fani-González Apr 9, 2026
Council President Fani-González, Vice President Balcombe, and Councilmember Sayles announced proposed amendments to ZTA 26-01 on April 9, 2026, adding requirements for 100% clean energy compliance, prohibition of potable water for cooling, and greater setbacks from schools and parks. The amendments also clarify that any project without a building permit before the ZTA's effective date — including the Dickerson site — would be subject to the new standards. The sponsors are accepting public feedback as the ZTA continues through the legislative process.
