Elrich Responds to Supreme Court TPS, Asylum Rulings

Elrich Jun 25, 2026
County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement on June 25, 2026, responding to two U.S. Supreme Court decisions: one declining to review the federal government's removal of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian nationals, and another allowing asylum seekers to be turned away before reaching U.S. soil. Elrich stated that more than 33,000 Maryland residents with TPS are affected, and that Montgomery County will not inquire about immigration status when residents seek services. He directed TPS holders to contact the Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center at 240-777-4940 for legal guidance.
